Cam By Netflix Could Be The 1st Horror Film Featuring Camgirls Done Right!

Netflix has created the very first horror film featuring camgirls and it looks pretty damn good. This film is called Cam and it’s scheduled to be released on Netflix, November 16, 2018. That’s just four more days away and I must admit I’m kind of excited. From the trailer, it appears that the movie Cam has real character development and a plot that actually took some thought? At least I hope so because I’m still wincing from watching previous attempts in this micro genre. Cue the reel for unintentional humor at the expense of b-listed damsels in distress:

Cam-Girl 2016 (They actually placed a hyphen in the title 🙂 ): A Thriller that revolves around Gessica, a 23-year-old web cam stripper who is pushed to the limit when held hostage by an unknown gunman.

Web Cam Girls: This is what happened when the Lifetime Network realized how big a market the cammodel industry was and attempted to cash in.

“When Alex Hilers’ hot mess cousin Carolyn vanishes, Alex suspects the worst…Carolyn has been “camming” lately, and Alex suspects she broke the rules and met one of her clients”

I will refrain from listing all of the poorly done cammodel documentaries that have plagued our industry over the years in order to get to the main purpose of this post, which is the Cam movie soon to air on Netflix. I have really high hopes for this film and because I am a huge lover of horror films I can’t wait to watch it. Here is the synopsis per RottenTomatoes:

CAM is a technology driven psychological thriller set in the world of webcam porn. It follows Alice, an ambitious camgirl, who one day discovers she’s been replaced on her show with an exact replica of herself. As this copy begins to push the boundaries of Alice’s internet identity, the control that Alice has over her life, and the men in it, vanishes. While she struggles to regain what she’s lost, she slowly finds herself drawn back to her show and to the mysterious person who has taken her place.

In my excitement to write this post about a film I’m so looking forward to watch, I neglected to realize that it’s written by a former cammodel! Cam the film was written by Isa Mazzei. Here’s what she had to say during an interview about her creating the movie:

Currently the film has a 90% Rating on Rotten Tomatoes but that of course can drop to abysmal levels in no time. Not that I’m one to give movie reviews lots of merit or greatly influence my opinion. I use RT as a way of showing you where the standards have been placed before seeing the movie. The movie doesn’t appear to be rated at the moment but it does have recognizable characters. It stars Madeline Brewer as the lead character and she’s probably most famously known from her role in The Handmaid’s Tale on Hulu. She was Janine, the chick with the one eye who did that thing. You know, that thing on the bridge? Never mind I don’t want to spoil it for you. But if you haven’t checked out the Handmaid’s Tale yet, you must get on top of that. She has other notable credits but many are independent films that seem to be the result of very deliberate choices. Maybe that’s why I automatically trust her in this role? If you have Netflix you’ll be about to see the movie cam in four day. If for some reason you don’t already have an account with the world’s number one streaming service and require prompting to sign up, here is the trailer for Cam down below.
