Adventures in Camgirl Science

What’s it like being a camgirl on Adultwork? If you’re considering signing up to work on a new cam site, you may have a list of legitimate questions. Some of which are “how much money will I make?” And most certainly if you’re considering signing up to Adultwork, you may wonder “is there paying traffic on Adultwork?” and “what are Adultwork customers like?” Unfortunately most experienced models are unable to answer these ns because they’re too busy figuring it our for themselves. My intent here is to share my own experiences as a veteran cammodel on Adultwork and show you my analysis from my personal chat data. I want to give you a snapshot of what you can expect as an Adultwork camgirl. And who doesn’t like a pile of juicy porn data, freshly squeezed into a few graphs?

Gather round, my chickies, for Miss Josephine’s show-and-tell. First I’ll give you the general outline of my traffic over the last couple of years, and after that we’ll go into the nitty-gritty of everyday chat interactions.

Adultwork live cam traffic: the overview

Now that we’ve established that I can’t tell you how much *you* will make as a cammodel on Adultwork, and I certainly won’t tell you exactly how much I make, however we can talk about the overall synopsis of the traffic in my chatroom.

My Adultwork log covers the stretch of time between November 2014 to September 2016. Please understand that there are large gaps in-between. In my analysis there are stretches of time as long as a few months. This is mostly due to Adultwork’s free preview being entirely optional. FYI Adultwork is one the few sites that allows cammodels to wait for camshows without enduring free chat. The majority of my chat sessions occurred after March 2016. Around this time is when I upgraded my equipment so that I could run the Adultwork software while streaming on other sites.

adultwork statistics

During this period of time, I logged 314 sessions in free preview. To be clear these are not 314 *days*. As nudity is not allowed in free preview at all on Adultwork. Just to let you know when I refer to “free preview” it’s synonymous with free chat. A term used amongst models when referring to sites like Streamate or ImLive. Basically free chat/free preview is where a model is expected to flirt with members in the hopes of converting them into a paid session. Whenever I get tipped for a flash or while splitcamming on multiple sites, I end the session and then log back in. During this time, 7,570 unique visitors joined my live chatroom. From this amount only a 1/4 of my visitors made more than 3 visits in total. As it turned out the largest number of visits to my chatroom was 29.

Intuitively those numbers make sense, because the way I’m very tuned in to the traffic that comes and goes through my Adultwork chatroom. If I began seeing the name of a non-spender often enough to recognise them, I usually just block the guy to preserve my attention. For those who become paying customers – especially the regulars I know quite well – there is no need to come into free preview at all. In fact, because on Adultwork each customer is given 5 minutes of free chat in 24 hours, the culture is not geared towards hanging out: it’s a place to negotiate shows, not catch up on each other’s lives. Therefore, regulars will usually head straight into a paid session.

From the total amount of visitors: 2554, roughly 34%, have ever spoken while in free preview. From there only 40% have made the effort to speak just the once. When I combine the statistics all together these guys have produced 14,961 total lines of chat.

So what is the result of all this chat activity? 296 total paid cam sessions, split equally between group and private shows. That’s about 1 sale for every 10 unique chatters. One sale for every 50 times someone speaks up.

What does these numbers tell you about what your day-to-day experience on Adultwork?

I don’t know about you, but to me 50 lines of freechat before a paid show looks like a lot of banter. Plenty of time to firt and convert. That’s a key feature of the Adultwork experience: the guys are very chatty. On other sites, you may have a dozen people logged on, all of whom are silently staring and not saying a peep for 20 minutes at a stretch. Not so on Adultwork, they will talk to you, even on low-traffic days.

Of course an obvious question arises: what kind of talk is it? Site cultures are different, ranging from swamps of pointless trolling to an environment full of friendly horny chatter. Where on this spectrum a given site falls, will obviously determine how you feel when you go to work there. So, let’s see what my chat logs can tell us about the tone of the place.

Digging into what they say

keywords adultwork

First of all, we can count all words and see which ones were used most often, once common English words have been removed. A word cloud is a handy way to display this information in pretty picture form. If you weren’t there in the chatroom, it’s possible that because of lack of context the image doesn’t tell you a lot. Allow me to give you a guided tour. The good news is that there’s pretty much zero trolling or abusive language. Instead you’re greeted with friendly or flirty forms of address: “hun”, “babe/bb”, “sexy”, “Mistress”, and “Miss”.

In addition you will have a large number of what we cammodels describe as “messages from the boner”. These are guys who’re eager to tell me that they enjoy what they see. Examples include: “wow”, Variations of “mmmm”. This will include every conceivable compliment known to mankind.

Examples From The Boner

“wow you are one beast of a woman..lovely! xxxx” “ur fucking lush” “U really R a very stunning young lady U know?”

shit guys say

Next we find a large number of men who don’t read your profile, and ask about services you don’t offer. “Meet”, “escort” and their variations are fairly prominent. To work free preview on Adultwork is to be constantly asked whether you will meet up for a physical session. The amount of attention that gets taken up by men who would rather ask me questions than read my profile is one of the things that makes the free preview experience much more tiring than it could be.

Finally, and prominently, we have the begging words: “please”, “see”, “show”, “stand”, “twirl” and their ilk. “Wearing” belongs here too (“what are you wearing?” or “are you wearing X?” as thinly veiled requests to show off to the camera and produce happy boners for free.) So do plenty of uses of the frequently encountered words “love”, “like” and “look” (“I’d love to take a look at your X”, “I like your Y, can you show me?”), as well as “cam” (guys here are always begging you to click on their cam so you can admire their genitals right there in free preview). Every webcam performer gets plenty of begging on a daily basis on any site, so there are few surprises here. It’s enough to say that Adultwork begging tends towards the polite end, but that begging and messages from the boner together make up the the bulk of daily interactions.

In Conclusion Of My Camgirl Science

I invite you take a look at chat lines that give you an idea of what kind of requests you may expect from guys who sound as though they’re actually shopping around for a session. Counting words is not going to help us here. Instead, I have pulled together some of the questions of the form “Do you do …?” and “Do you have …?”, and arranged them into a bunch of graphs known as word trees, that allow you to get a feeling for how a phrase is used in context. Obviously, some requests aren’t expressed in the same form, so this is just a sample.

 do-you

The graphs are fairly self-explanatory, I think. Basically, expect to be asked about every fetish that exists. Of course, it doesn’t mean that you should cater to every fetish that exists: stick to what you’re comfortable with. The guys are just shopping around. On the other hand, if there’re something you’re especially good at, never fear: your audience will eventually find you, because they’ll patiently go around every room on Adultwork until they find the girl with just the right taste in granny cardigans, or whatever it is.

So there we have it. There are plenty of other questions with which I could go poking in the chat log, but I think the above gives you some food for thought if you’re wondering what Adultwork is like on a day-to-day basis as a camming workplace.

Let’s sum things up

There’s a reasonable amount of traffic in free preview, especially taking into account the 5-minute limit and the ban on flashing so much as a nipple.

Adultwork customers are incredibly chatty, and in their short 5 minutes manage to say quite a lot. This may be a blessing if you get bored easily, or a curse if constant talking tires you out.

The guys are pretty friendly, even the freeloaders. No site is without its trolls, but on the whole working here isn’t a constant trial of your self-confidence.

It helps to have a stash of stockings and heels, bb.

They probably haven’t read your profile.
